Advantages of Solar Streetlight System

2019-05-31

Solar street light consists of the following components:Solar panel, batteries, solar street lighting special controller, light source and pole.  It is an automatic control system of work, simply set the operating mode of the system will automatically run the job.

Solar street light is ideal for road lighting, with the improvement and the continuous development of people's lives, it will be widely used, so that the sun gives the earth bright lighting at night for mankind.

Solar energy - one of the main energy of this century . By 2030, the world's electricity production will mainly rely on renewable energy sources.  As solar energy does not pollute the environment, but also an inexhaustible supply of new energy will be everywhere. Solar photovoltaic products through the sun under the action of light into electrical energy , is a use of the high-tech development of new energy sources. Solar energy is a new energy mankind pursued and yearns for in the 21st century.

The disadvantage of ordinary AC power street light: the installation procedures are complicated . Laying cables, digging cable trench , burying pipes and lines. Some places is not good for burying cable, the cost will be higher.  It take long time for installation and adjustment, wasting a lot of human and financial resources.  With electricity prices are rising accordingly.  They often carry out maintenance on the line .    Buried cable have security risk ,the buried line would be destroyed  if someone work in the burying place, even cause accidents.

Advantages of ordinary AC power street light:  not affected by the weather.  Can be also operated in the place short of  sunshine.  Comparing , the cost of ordinary street light is lower.

Advantages of solar street light : easy to install, without laying cable, just dig a small hole, a cement base, fit with stainless steel screws .

Solar street light operated by the electricity that converted from solar power.  so almost zero runny cost , Only require routine maintenance and repair aging equipment .  Although   procurement costs is higher than ordinary street light,  But the cost will be recovered in future. The life span of Solar street lamps lamp is longer than the AC powered ordinary street light.

Highlights of solar lights and solar power systems  :

1, energy-saving, which is powered by inexhaustible sunshine , no consumption of energy ;

2, environmental friendly , comply with environmental protection requirements, no pollution, no radiation, ecological protection;

3, security, because the product does not use alternating current220V AC, but powered by 12V DC electricity of battery, that is the safest power;

4, high technology , the core product is the intelligent controller ,with function of time control and light control, automatically turn on and off .

5, long service life, low installation cost, easy maintenance.

With the poor or energy source, and rising on investment costs of traditional energy , safety and pollution problems can be described as ubiquitous in the earth's resources. Solar energy as an "inexhaustible" safety, environment friendly ,  new energy sources get more and more attention.

Most solar panels turn on and turn off automatically by sensing outdoor light using a light source. Solar streetlights are designed to work throughout the night. Many can stay lit for more than one night if the sun is not available for a couple of days.

Older models included lamps that were not fluorescent or LED. Solar lights installed in windy regions are generally equipped with flat panels to better cope with the winds.

Latest designs use wireless technology and fuzzy control theory for battery management. The street lights using this technology can operate as a network with each light having the capability of performing on or off the network.

Components

Solar powered street lights

Solar street lights consist of 5 main parts:

Solar Panel

The solar panel is one of the most important parts of solar street lights, as the solar panel will convert solar energy into electricity. There are 2 types of solar panel: mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline. Conversion rate of mono-crystalline solar panel is much higher than poly-crystalline.

Lighting Fixture

LED is usually used as lighting source of modern solar street light, as the LED will provide much higher Lumens with lower energy consumption. The energy consumption of LED fixture is at least 50% lower than HPS fixture which is widely used as lighting source in Traditional street lights. LEDs lack of warm up time also allows for use of motion detectors for additional efficiency gains.

Rechargeable Battery

Battery will store the electricity from solar panel during the day and provide energy to the fixture during night. The life cycle of the battery is very important to the lifetime of the light and the capacity of the battery will affect the backup days of the lights. There are usually 2 types of batteries: Gel Cell Deep Cycle Battery and Lead Acid Battery and many more.

Controller

Controller is also very important for solar street light. A controller will usually decide to switch on /off charging and lighting. Some modern controllers are programmable so that user can decide the appropriate change of charging, lighting and dimming.

Pole

Strong Poles are necessary to all street lights, especially to solar street lights as there are often components mounted on the top of the pole: fixtures, panels and sometimes batteries. However, in some newer designs, the PV panels and all electronics are integrated in the pole itself. Wind resistance is also a factor.
